Royal Perth signs with Jacobsen
The Royal Perth Golf Club has signed a five-year preferred supplier agreement with Jacobsen, facilitated by local dealer McIntosh & Son.
The first delivery was made recently and included Eclipse 322 mowers featuring the very latest greens mowing technology.
Brad Dawson, the General Manager of the Royal Perth Golf Club said there were a number of contributing factors why the club entered into the exclusive
agreement.
“The mowers and products of Jacobsen themselves are of first-class quality. Our course superintendent Michael Dennis is very happy with the product as
well, so obviously the quality of the machine is important, but also the professional attitude of Jacobsen and McIntosh & Son towards the club
was outstanding,” Mr Dawson said.
Superintendent Michael Dennis is equally confident about the decision to purchase the Eclipse 322 mowers saying the state-of-the-art-greens mowers sold
themselves because they have absolutely no hydraulics.
“The quality of cut was a major reason for this partnership and the ease of using the machine and adjusting the height of cut is fantastic. Because the
Eclipse 322 has a much smaller engine its quieter than the other machines too; we’ve got a bit of a noise problem around the boundary of the golf course,
so that should help,” Mr Dennis said.
Jacobsen’s Regional Sales Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Mike Foskett, was on hand for the delivery of the new mowers, confident that the investment
will prove to be beneficial for both the club and the 10 full-time staff members in the course maintenance department at Royal Perth.
“There are several aspects to consider,” he said.
“From an environmental footprint perspective, they’re going to be using less diesel and, of course, there’s no hydraulic oil, so no risk of an oil spill.
From the golf course perspective, they don’t have to worry about getting rid of oil filters and at the same time they will improve the quality of cut.
“Superintendents like Mike basically get measured by the members, their board, and the surface they produce and if we can supply mowers that assist in
what he does, and make that quality of cut easier, then that’s a win-win for everyone,” said Mr Foskett.
The Eclipse 322 uses a 15 blade reel as standard and the height of the cut is easily adjustable using the recently introduced TrueSet system. Royal Perth
has also specified brushes with spiral bristles that automatically spin to free excess grass build up on the rear roller.
Having hosted the 2012 WA Open event, as well as three of the last four Australian Senior Opens, the course maintenance team at Royal Perth Golf Club ensure
they trim the course every day.
Mike Dennis showed no anxiety over using the latest in mowing technology.
“We try and cut 20 times a week, so this mower is going to get a good workout! I think they’ll fit in with our maintenance program and easily take the
place of our current machines.”
The signing of this five-year agreement is a positive step for the Jacobsen brand as Mike Foskett explains.
“The decision was obviously made to go down this path by Royal Perth Golf Club because they already had some Jacobsen machinery, and Mike Dennis was open
to the idea of the Jacobsen machinery.
“Being an exclusive club is important, because people look at what Mike Dennis does and people look at what Royal Perth Golf Club does, so it’s definitely
important to have made this partnership. He was WA’s superintendent of the year in 2012, so he’s a very influential guy on the Australian golf scene,”
Mr Foskett said.
Commenting at the conclusion of the handover, Brad Dawson said with over 1500 members to impress, it’s very important that they continue to enhance the
playing condition at Royal Perth.
“It’s very exciting! We look forward to maintaining a long-term relationship with Jacobsen and using Royal Perth as a showcase-course for Jacobsen machinery.”
