ChemClear celebrates milestone

For the last 12 years, thousands of chemical users have relied on ChemClear to dispose of their unwanted agricultural and veterinary chemicals.

ChemClear celebrates milestone

Over this time, the program has grown to become the most successful stewardship – or closed loop – waste disposal program operating in Australia.ChemClear
collections help neutralise the threat of chemical waste from harming local communities, the environment and Australia’s trade opportunities.Collections
are made across the country on a needs basis or via two permanent collection facilities in Sydney and Melbourne. Waste holders register their agvet
chemical products to be collected, resulting in a regional or statewide pick-up being scheduled once a threshold has been reached.

To date, over 100 collections across six states have transpired, culminating in a milestone 500 tonnes of obsolete rural chemicals being retrieved for
appropriate disposal across the country.

500 tonnes diverted from landfill converts to about 15,000 times the weight of a standard brick, 30 times the weight of a car, 9 million times the weight
of a sheet of paper or 4 million times the weight of a AAA battery.

Lisa Nixon has been the National Program Manager since the inception of the program.

“When ChemClear was first established in 2003 as a pilot, we thought the take up from agvet users might be slow. Boy, were we wrong. The booking line grows
each day with more and more product being registered,” she said.

“The program has been a fantastic initiative that has succeeded year on year, and along the way we have gained excellent support from industry, grower
organisations and state governments.”

ChemClear has received government funding support over the years to help finance the disposal of products from agvet chemical users that are no longer
identifiable or are unregistered.

In 2015, the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage subsidised the cost of collection of deregistered or unknown chemicals (Group 2) during
a run which collected 37 tonnes of product from farmers, businesses, golf courses, government departments and councils across the state.

Coral Sanders, a user from Nanango who was a funding recipient said, “Registering online for the service was convenient and I was easily able to store
my chemicals, some of which were approximately 10-years-old, in a poisons shed prior to collection. By disposing of my chemicals, I’ve removed the
burden from others if something was to happen to me. ChemClear is a valuable service for all agvet chemical users.”

Agsafe General Manager Alison Carmichael said, “We can all relate to the image of the brown bottle on a shelf in the shed, enshrouded by cobwebs, or the
dinted and rusted drum in the corner, or the stack of plastic drums with illegible or missing labels.”

“There are many valid reasons why agvet chemicals become unwanted or unusable such as a change of farm use or ownership, changes in regulation or simply
availability of another product that is more appropriate for the job. The ChemClear program provides a fantastic service where these containers can
be taken from the property and the contents disposed of safely.”

500 tonnes is the equivalent of 25,000 twenty litre containers of product. These are chemicals that pose a safety risk by being left in sheds, discarded
in paddocks or eventually ending up in our waterways or in our soils.

“Removing so much unwanted product from the farm is a great result for the program, greatly reducing the risk of an incident resulting from a spill or
misuse,” said Ms Carmichael.

As well as safety, health and stock benefits of the program itself, ChemClear is also aimed at supporting users of agvet chemicals to comply with impacts
of environmental and farm management systems by providing a service to meet quality assurance standards and maintain good environmental practices.

“By participating in ChemClear, chemical users are provided with documentation that demonstrates they are meeting their responsibilities for on-farm waste
management of chemicals,” said Ms Nixon.

“We’ve found that users of the program are relieved to hand over their unwanted chemicals, which in some cases, have been lying around for up to 30 years.
The chemicals we are collecting can result from changes in farming direction, deceased estates, inherited chemicals from relatives and are often due
to the purchase or sale of a property. To see the relief on waste holders faces to finally drop off their chemicals to an appropriate disposal program
is very satisfying.”

ChemClear is leading the way in product stewardship and wishes to thank agvet chemical manufacturers, local government and program users for their commitment
to sharing in the responsibility for a sustainable future in Australian agriculture.

Ms Nixon said, “It has been an inspiring program to be involved in and I urge farmers and other users of agvet chemical to check out their storages and
register for the program as it forms a crucial role in protecting the future of the industry.”

Green speed improved without raising height of cut at Pine Rock Golf Club

Sam Huang, Superintendent at Pine Rock Golf Club in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei in China has successfully increased his green speed without raising the height
of cut using Jacobsen’s Eclipse mowing technology.

Green speed improved without raising height of cut at Pine Rock Golf Club

Pine Rock Golf Club, managed by IMG, is the first private members golf club to open in Qinhuangdao and is located on the coast, two hours drive from Beijing.
The location is a dramatic mix of bold rock outcrops, a rock quarry and gently rolling countryside with several stands of mature pine trees.

Back in April, Lewes Liu, Jacobsen’s Sales Manager for the region, gave a presentation to the Green Care Association on the benefits of the Eclipse technology
and after reading the subsequent article, Sam Huang, who runs a fleet of Jacobsen equipment, decided to test the principle.

Last July, maintaining his height of cut at 3 mm, he reduced the frequency of clip (FOC) from 0.16” to 0.14” and increased his green speed from 9.5 feet
to 10 feet. The Jacobsen Eclipse technology is the only mower control system on the market that allows the number of cuts per yard/metre to be controlled
so precisely.

Commenting on the results of this trial, Sam Huang said he was delighted that they were able to increase their green speed while maintaining the original
height of cut.

“This is a significant breakthrough and will ensure that we have a healthy grass plant and don’t have to chase increased speed by cutting lower.

“We have found Jacobsen’s mowers to be very reliable and their overall performance is the best in the industry. Also, their after-sales service is also
better as we can compare this having tractors and spraying equipment from their main competitors.”

One of the top five clubs in the Beijing area, Pine Rock purchased the majority of their Jacobsen fleet in 2012 and added three SLF1880 fairway mowers
a year later. Currently they run eight Eclipse2 battery powered walking greens mowers, 10 Greens King 522s for the tees, an AR3 for the light rough,
an AR522 for the semi-rough, two TR3s for greens surrounds and two Eclipse 322 ride-on mower for green mowing and verticutting.

Student attends Jacobsen Future Turf Managers’ event in USA

Jarryd Graham from Kew Golf Club in Victoria was nominated by TAFE, Melbourne Polytechnic to attend Jacobsen’s Future Turf Managers’ Initiative (FTMI)
in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The FTMI event gives turfgrass students an opportunity to network with industry professionals, see some of the best managed sports fields in America and
also get an insider’s look at Jacobsen’s turf maintenance equipment.

This year international students were invited and Jarryd Graham was nominated to attend this invaluable three-day event. Commenting on his experience he
said he was shown around the Jacobsen manufacturing facilities and it was good to see the machinery being built.

“They build it all in one place now, they are based in one big manufacturing plant which was impressive.”

The visit also included trips to a couple of golf courses, the Peninsula Golf Club on Lake Norman, a few miles north of Charlotte and Sage Valley Golf
Club in South Carolina, just 15 miles from Augusta National. The magnificent Sage Valley was built by property developer, Weldon Wyatt, whose company
built most of the Walmart stores in the USA, after he had been turned down for membership at Augusta National!

Also included in the itinerary was a visit to the University of South Carolina and a tour of their sports facilities. Known as the ‘Gamecocks’ the university’s
Williams-Bryce football stadium seats 80,250 spectators and their US $35-plus million Carolina Stadium baseball stadium, which opened in 2009, has
a capacity of 8,242 fans. Assistant Athletics Director Clark Cox hosted the students and explained the turf management practices at both venues.

Jarryd gets to grips with Jacobsen’s Eclipse2

“In Australia when we do our apprenticeships we’re more practical based, whereas over in the USA, they go to university full time for three years and then
intern on their holidays. It was a bit of an eye opener,” Jarryd added.

“The practical side we do in Australia is really good because you’re always outside working and you’re learning on the job. But being full time students,
you could see that the American students’ theory was probably a bit ahead of where ours sort of sits.”

“Attending the Future Managers Turf Initiative is a good reference to have on your CV. The lecturers recognise that later down the track I’d be a good
candidate for a leadership position at another golf course.”

Jarryd didn’t realise that he would be using the skills he picked up from Jacobsen’s FTMI a lot quicker than he’d expected. Kew Golf Club recently changed
Superintendents and he was able to use the FTMI experience to good effect.

“I’ve been able to step up with the assistant and we’ve been running the course for the last month now. Having attended FTMI demonstrated to the committee
at Kew that I’m a person that’s capable of handling a wide variety of jobs. Attending Jacobsen’s event only confirmed that this is the career path
I want to take. I love the turf management industry and this experience just reaffirmed that,” Jarryd concluded.

Whip your backyard into shape safely this spring

If your backyard is looking a little worse for wear after the cool, winter months, there’s a good chance you’ll need to break out the line trimmer for
a complete tidy up.

Lawn care specialists Rover realise that safety should be of the utmost importance while operating backyard machinery and have provided these six simple
tips to guide you on your next backyard blitz.

  • Make a Checklist – It is a good idea to conduct a brief inspection of your line trimmer and the area you’ll be
working on before starting. Make a note to check the fuel level, trimming line quality (change if needed) and clear away any toys, sticks, rocks
or other debris from the working area. When starting your machine, make sure your hands and feet are well clear of any moving parts.
  • Take Pride in Protection – When snipping up the backyard, your line trimmer will send grass clippings and other
unexpected debris in all directions. Please make sure pets and children are not present in your working vicinity and that you’re wearing protective
clothing to shield you from fragments. Enclosed footwear, protective eyewear, long pants and a long sleeved shirt should be worn at all times and
remember to slip, slop slap before you head out on your trimming tirade.
  • Easy on the Edges – As you make your way around the backyard, be sure to stick to the edges where the grass is
lighter and never try to cut big clumps of grass; leave the tough stuff for the lawn mower. This will ensure your line trimmer stays at its optimum
working ability and won’t tangle in the longer grass, which could lead to malfunction or to possible injury.
  • Safe and Stable – Always maintain your footing while trimming and make sure your balance isn’t compromised in your
working area; slippery and uneven surfaces are a definite no go. Trimming in wet conditions is extremely hazardous and should be avoided.
  • Flick the Switch – If you’re in need of a well-°©‐earned break, be sure to turn your trimmer off before
leaving it unattended. When changing your trimming line, always wait until all rotations have completely stopped before putting your hands near
    the end of the trimmer.
  • Good as New – Keep your line trimmer in tip top condition by giving it a thorough clean before you put it away.
Returning it to the shed spick and span after each and every use will prolong your trimmer’s life expectancy and ensure it is ready to go when
    needed next.

Two new irrigators to aid preparation for Spring Carnival

Twenty years ago Corowa-based Upton Engineering designed and built it’s first Irriturf racecourse irrigator on behalf of the Victoria Racing Club for Flemington
Racecourse.

The Flemington Racecourse has just taken delivery of two new Upton Irriturf Racecourse Irrigators

The Flemington Racecourse has just taken delivery of two new Upton Irriturf Racecourse Irrigators

The Irriturf proved to be such an innovative concept that was successful in accurately irrigating grass racetrack surfaces that it became the preferred
option at many of Australia’s premier capital city racecourses. It was also successfully exported to a number of the world’s most famous racecourses
in the USA, the UK, South Africa and New Zealand.

Upton Engineering has just completed a major upgrade to their Irriturf Racecourse Irrigator design with one new machine recently commissioned at Caulfield
and two more just delivered to Flemington where they will be used in preparing the grass track surfaces for the coming Spring Carnival including the
2015 Melbourne Cup.

Paul Upton, managing director of the long established Upton Engineering Pty Ltd, says the new design takes into account all the advances in manufacturing
and irrigation technology which have emerged over the last twenty years.

“We are confident that our latest irrigator is highly efficient in operation and accurate in the volume of water that can be applied to the track.”

A key feature of the new Upton Irriturf Racecourse Irrigator is the design of the boom. The two new machines supplied to Flemington are 30 metres
in boom width to command the full grass track width and comprise four individual folding galvanized steel boom sections.

Each of the boom sections can be folded in and switched off so that the boom width can be varied to avoid any trackside obstructions or to change the spread
of watering. The boom can also be raised or lowered to suit particular circumstances or to avoid distortion which may occur due to prevailing
winds.

When the irrigator is not in use or stored the booms all fold in to give a maximum machine width of only three metres.

The Irriturf is fitted with a 200 metre length of premium Australian-made Crusader flexible hose of 95mm (three inches) in diameter which is carried on
a hydraulically-activated wind-up reel. The hose connects by a snap-on coupling to a hydrant inside the running rail at every 200 metres so that
the Irriturf can water a total track run of 400 metres a time.

The water, at a typical flow rate of 15 litres/second, is applied via a choice of specially designed sprinklers fitted along each section of the boom.
This helps to achieve the objective of applying more water to the track surface in the least amount of time as possible. At this rate a 400 metre
section of the track can be watered in two hours applying an equivalent of 9mm of rainfall.

Another feature is a portable pendant controller in the cabin of the small tractor that tows the irrigator along each 400 metre run.

Mr Upton says this gives the operator complete control over all the Irriturf‘s features including the volume of water being applied, the height of the
boom above the track surface and variations in the boom width.

“The pendant gives a digital readout of all the features so that the watering operator is always informed on all its operating features.”

The irrigator is also fitted with low compression turf tyres so that compaction along the surface contact — or ‘tramlining’ — is avoided.

Paul adds that they know the flexibility of the machine design, as operators have chosen at times to water each 400 metre inner or outer section of track
individually or on alternate days.

“This gives the choice to water … only the inside portion of half the track in one direction, then to turn the irrigator around and water the outside
section. So the flexibility of our new machine is a feature.

“We took advantage of the latest in CAD (computer aided design) in designing every part. All steel components are laser cut for precision and galvanized
for protection to ensure a long operating life under outdoor conditions,” Paul said.

“Australia’s major racecourses like Flemington are regarded as providing the best grass racing surfaces for racing anywhere and we know that international
racing clubs are keeping in touch with our advances in track irrigator design.

“So in addition to the enquiries and orders we already hold for irrigators from other local racecourses, they will probably be followed up with new export
orders for what is a uniquely Australian irrigation solution for grass racecourses,” Paul concluded.

Kennards Hire Lift and Shift conveyors make stair climb easy

To excavate and remove 70 tonne of soil, Colin Brook from Goolwa Tippers utilised an innovative solution from Kennards Hire Lift & Shift.

Kennards Hire Lift & Shift conveyors make stair climb easy

The site was located at the top of a hill, which overlooks the picturesque city of Victor Harbor on the South Australian coast 85 kilometres south of Adelaide.

“The soil needed to be removed to enable the construction of an elevator,” explained Colin.

“Adding to the complexity of the project was how to transfer the excavated soil up the very steep 25 metre incline into the tip truck. The answer
came in the form of 5 x 6 metre and 2 x 3.3 metre conveyors from Kennards Hire Lift & Shift.”

Another challenge for Colin and his machinery operators, son Scott and nephew Adam, was the limited site access. The steepness of the slope and working
in close proximity of the house prevented using a large excavator. To overcome this, a one tonne excavator on a wooden deck reinforced with forming
ply was used.

“The conveyors were placed on the two flights of stairs and offered the safest and most efficient way to remove the soil. They also negated the need for double handling
and are narrow enough that stair access wasn’t impeded.”

The main focus of business for Goolwa Tippers is in foundation works and ground preparation for the concreting industry, excavation for residential housing
development and trenching for the plumbing and electrical industries.

This is the first project where Colin has used conveyor belts, which can operate on a maximum inclination of 30° and are well-suited for areas with narrow
access. He was extremely impressed saying it saved at least two weeks in labour alone.

“The conveyors from Kennards Hire Lift & Shift worked perfectly. They’re simple to operate and light enough for two men to easily reposition as needed,” he added.

Kennards Hire Lift & Shift conveyors make stair climb easy

Colin was also very pleased with the service and assistance he received.

“Michael Allison from Kennards Hire Lift & Shift Hindmarsh provided outstanding service. He arranged delivery and pick-up from site, which was very helpful. Knowing these conveyors are available, it’s something
we’ll keep in mind for future projects.”

Kennards Lift & Shift has
a range of portable conveyors,
which are ideal for removing sand, brick and building rubble, can be assembled in as little as 15 minutes without specialised equipment or tools. Featuring
an inbuilt circuit breaker for added safety, each miniveyor can be handled by two men with ease. A multi-purpose hopper is also available.

ChemClear contributes to a cleaner Queensland

ChemClear has successfully completed its second largest collection of unwanted agricultural and veterinary chemicals in Queensland.

ChemClear contributes to a cleaner Queensland

The final pool equated to 37.16 tonnes, with 22,041 L/kg of Group 1 classified chemicals and 15,120 L/kg of Group 2 chemicals collected from farmers, businesses,
golf courses, government departments and councils across the state.

“We are extremely pleased with the result,” said National Program Manager Lisa Nixon. “In total, ChemClear has collected over 178.7 tonnes of obsolete
or unknown chemicals across QLD over the past nine years”.

QLD exceeds any other state’s retrieved collection totals under the program, with NSW coming a close second with around 138.7 tonnes collected to date.

Ms Nixon said, “After 12 years with ChemClear, the level of really old, nasty chemicals that comes out of the woodwork on state collections still amazes
me. Our data shows that there are a lot of agvet chemicals that are inherited from farm purchases or family takeovers. A lot of the products are also
simply no longer required due to changes in agriculture. It’s really important that farmers have a service available to dispose of these chemicals
as they can pose a real safety and health risk.”

The ChemClear truck collected product from hundreds of farmers in less than six weeks during June and July, and covered 12,063 kilometres in total. On
the return trip to Melbourne, the program also took the opportunity to collect 6.5 tonnes of chemicals from two farmers in Walgett and Wee Waa as the
truck passed through New South Wales.

Together these quantities accumulate to bring the overall amount of chemicals collected across Australia to 500 tonnes since the inception of the program
in 2003 – a wonderful achievement for all involved.

This year’s agvet chemical in the Group 2 pool was partly funded by the QLD Department of Environment and Heritage Protection. The Department funded the
collection of 11,853 L/kg from 156 farmers and the remainder of 3,2667 L/kg was paid for by a further 34 waste holders.

Feedback collected after the run has also been positive, with 100% of program users indicating that the delivery process was straightforward and convenient,
and they would use the service again in the future.

Health and safety, followed by concern about damage to the environment associated with irresponsible disposal, were the main motivators behind users registering
their chemicals for collection.

Coral Sanders, a user from Nanango who was a funding recipient said, “Registering online for the service was convenient and I was easily able to store
my chemicals, some of which were approximately 10-years-old, in a poisons shed prior to collection.”

Ms Sanders encourages any agvet chemical user holding onto unwanted products to register them with ChemClear to ensure that they are safely taken care
of.

“By disposing of my chemicals, I’ve removed the burden from others if something was to happen to me. ChemClear is a valuable service for all agvet chemical
users,” she said.

Ms Nixon said, “We would like to thank the Department for supporting ChemClear in this year’s state-wide collection. Farmers really need a helping hand
in securing a safe disposal option for their unknown and aged chemicals.”

98% of chemicals collected by ChemClear are used as an alternative fuel source in the manufacturing of cement. Most of the material is destroyed in kilns
which reach temperatures in excess of 1,800°C.

If you have missed the recent collection and would like to utilise the service, please take an inventory of your unwanted chemicals and register for the
next collection in QLD by visiting www.chemclear.com.au or calling 1800 008 182.

Strong increases in rural theft increase need for protective devices

Recent rural and regional media headlines like “Surge in farm theft, trespass”and “Take all measures to stop thieves” reflect the fact that country businesses
and farms are always key targets of thieves.

The Silvan Selecta SENTINEL security system can operate up to four security cameras day or night

The Silvan Selecta SENTINEL security system can operate up to four security cameras day or night

The recent University of New England rural crime study has found a doubling of the incidence of thefts since 2001.

Usually the theft targets are items with a high convenience and quickly realisable cash value and can range from fuel to livestock, tools and machinery
of all types and for many regional retail traders cigarettes and liquor stocks are always at risk.

The onus is increasingly on farmers and all types of property owners to have the best available protective systems installed to act as a deterrent and
in many instances to be able to detect or identify intruders and thieves.

Silvan Australia, through its Selecta merchandise division, offers an expanding range of simple and easy to use asset protection and security products
such as basic warning signs, heavy chain locks, wireless driveway sensors and motion activated cameras. The latest is the SENTINEL Wireless CCTV
system for day/night video monitoring and recording that is ideal for watching a business, farm, home, workshop or other valuable possessions.

The new SENTINEL system comes with one camera and base station LCD screen which can be expanded to manage up to four cameras wirelessly up to 150m from
the base station.

The wireless function is specially convenient as it allows cameras to be set at accessory buildings surrounding the home or business without stringing
long cables across the yard.

With cameras active 24/7, rated for indoor/outdoor use and featuring a broad night vision range up to 15 metres there is the best chance of seeing activity
which can be reviewed from the base station or even as live view from a mobile phone.

The SENTINEL system is very flexible in the way of recording activity by allowing manual, scheduled and a smart motion activated loop recording keeping
six seconds of footage from before the movement of an intruder is even detected.

Recorded activity is kept separate from the camera through recording to an SD card in the base station, away from prying eyes.

Silvan Selecta spokesman Michael Frost says that the Sentinel system is an inexpensive solution for around homes and businesses where there is access to
240V power so that constant activity is captured while the battery operated cameras are great for remote locations with less activity.

“Increasingly we are receiving reports of thefts from farms, machinery dealerships, yards and service areas.

“Clearly security is an individual choice of a business or a property owner but we also hear the consequence of not just equipment loss, but the on costs
coming from downtime, or business disruption, costly repairs to property damage and often from the stresses from having an unknown intruder on premises.

“The strong message coming from authorities including the Police forces Australia-wide is that theft prevention or deterrence is an individual responsibility,”
Mr Frost says.

Products, together with advice and information on appropriate security choices, can be obtained from Selecta resellers nationwide.

Leave no piece of grass uncut with Cub Cadet’s RZT S42 Ride-On Lawn Mower

To make that transition easier, Cub Cadet has released the RZT S42, a zero-turn — with a steering wheel that will make your next mowing session as
effortless as watching your grass grow.

Perfect for acre blocks, the Cub Cadet RZT S42 features the innovative Zero-Turn, 360 degree turning technology, which allows the user to turn in a perfect
circle, leaving no tall, thick or wet grass uncut. Couple that with the easy-to-use steering wheel and four wheel-steering control, you’ll feel complete
stability while mowing around obstacles on steeper and more diverse terrain — and anywhere else.

The RZT S42’s super tough 42” twin-blade is designed for premium cutting and has the strength and rigidity to keep the high-lift blades from deflecting
and flexing under heavy loads, severe conditions or high speeds. Built with a powerful 725cc, professional-grade Kohler® electric start engine, the
RZT S42 has a top speed of 11km/h, which allows your whole yard to be mowed in an instant, giving you more time to sit back and admire your handy work.

Cub Cadet’s Cub Comfort™ deluxe high-back seat will make you feel like a king on a throne while you cruise around the backyard in utter contentment.
And the RZT S42’s 10 litre fuel capacity means you’ll rarely have to jump off your new favourite chair until your job is done. With a 3-year/120-hour
limited warranty included in all Cub Cadet products, you’ll be sure to cut with confidence on this mowing machine.

Show your lawn who’s Boss

The LawnBoss is the latest and greatest Ride On Lawn Mower to come out of the R&D workshop at Cox Mowers.

Show Your Lawn Who’s Boss with the LawnBoss Ride On Mower

Show your lawn who’s boss with the LawnBoss Ride On Mower

Designed and manufactured in Australia, the LawnBoss is tailor made to suit harsh Australian conditions and deliver premium results.

It is important in Ride On mowers that functionality meets comfort and the Lawn Boss has achieved exactly this. An ergonomically designed seating position
facilitates lengthy operating times. Often comfort does not beget performance, but the LawnBoss is the exception to that rule. A Tuff Torq hydrostatic
transmission paired with a 15.5hp Briggs and Stratton electric start engine results in an incredibly smooth and enjoyable ride, and provide the grunt
required to buzz about your acreage efficiently.

The chassis of the LawnBoss has been constructed from Australian-made fabricated sheet steel and body panels are industrial grade polypropylene, which
will not rust and will resist minor dings and scratches. Being as tough as nails is one thing but the LawnBoss is also good to look at and is great
fun to operate.

The LawnBoss can be supplied with either a 32” or 38” cutting deck depending on the operator’s requirements. Designed by veterans of the mower industry,
Cox, the LawnBoss is above all else, durable and reliable. Formed and welded, heavy gauge steel cutting decks, laser cut and keyed unitary chassis,
all locally manufactured, equate to a thoroughly practical and tough Ride On mower.

Ideal for small acreage blocks in the Australian landscape, the LawnBoss is the ultimate Ride On mower at its price point. Real value for money! A product
of Cox’s tried and true manufacturing methods; this is the Ride On mower made by Australians, for Australians.

One year to go and Jacobsen mowers are maintaining the Rio Olympic golf course

Jacobsen mowing equipment, built at the company’s manufacturing facilities in Ipswich, UK and Charlotte, USA are maintaining the Rio Olympic Golf Course
as golf returns to the Olympic Games after a 112-year absence.

After winning the exclusive supply contract for the mowing equipment, Jacobsen machines have been mowing the course for the past 15 months as construction
finished and grow-in progressed.

Initially, 18 machines were delivered in June 2014 and included three Eclipse2 walking greens mowers, two Eclipse 322 hybrid powered ride-on greens mowers,
four Greens King walking mowers, one SLF1880 super light fairway mower, two LF3800 fairway mowers, three Turfcat out-front ride-on rotary mowers, two
UK-built TR3 reel mowers for tees and surrounds and a GA30 pedestrian aerator.

By the time the first test event takes place early in 2016, a total of 35 Jacobsen turf maintenance machines will be employed at the course. During the
Olympics, the course will be in constant use for 14 days and a team of Jacobsen technicians will be running the maintenance facility to provide 24-hour
support.

Englishman Neil Cleverly was appointed course superintendent in June 2013 and has worked closely with Gil Hanse, the course architect, whose design was
chosen as the preferred option from eight high profile entries. Hanse was voted ‘Architect of the Year’ by Golf Magazine in 2009, the same year that
one of his designs, Castle Stuart in Scotland, was considered to be ‘The Best New International Course’.

The mix of grass species is an interesting one with Zeon Zoysia used extensively on tees, surrounds, fairways and roughs, while SeaDwarf Seaside Paspalum
is used on the greens. Both species are drought tolerant and the Paspalum is also saltwater tolerant, which is important as the quality of the irrigation
water will be variable.

Alan Prickett, Managing Director of Ransomes Jacobsen in the UK said they are, once again, delighted to be involved in the Olympic Games and it continues
a tradition that goes back over many decades.

“This was a particularly important win for us, as it marks the return of golf as an Olympic sport after more than a century, and it is sure to be one of
the high-profile events at the Games.

“One of the deciding factors in our winning of the contract was that we have a distributor in Brazil. ProGolf has represented the Jacobsen brand in Brazil
since 2012 as well as Ryan, Turfco and Smithco; three companies with whom we have excellent working relationships across the globe. ProGolf’s core
business is golf course construction and they are working as sub-contractors at the Olympic course,” Alan said.

The course, which features natural vegetation, extensive bunkers, a lagoon and sandy rough ground lining the fairways, is now completely grassed and well
on schedule for the first test event. During the Games, it will host two 60-competitor tournaments with the women’s event following the men’s competition
over a two-week period. It will accommodate 2,500 spectators in grandstands with space for a further 17,500 around the course.
